Hi
I’m Ambar, daughter of immigrants in Empire, granddaughter of the islands with fertile soil, volcanoes, rainforest, the stars, the wind, coral reefs, fragrant Jasmine and storytelling drawn in batik, here to get the most out of my human experience and have met incredible people on the way.
I’ve worked in the creative industry for years and am fortunate to spend my time being surrounded and inspired by amazing talent. This environment has taught me more than the creative aspect. It challenged me as an individual, leading to burnout in the past, and opened a door to self-exploration through understanding my traumas, including rupture in my family construct, grief and my experience as a daughter of the diaspora in the Netherlands.
Many lives later, I went deeper. I made a friend in Amsterdam who worked on a breast cancer awareness art project and invited me to hold space for men and women with her during our workshops. I discovered that I fell into the demographic we shared stories about. My breast cancer diagnosis, experiencing the concept of death, aliveness and recovery during the pandemic, has led me to peel off more layers of myself through a meditation practice, alternate states of consiousness, breathwork, the healing properties of sound, diving into my Javanese lineage and transgenerational healing, where our wisdom lies.
Now, I’m on a journey of decolonising my ways of thinking, as the world is moving into a direction where we’re forgetting who we are to “belong” and learning with loving rage how white supremacy culture and capitalism have contributed to our historic amnesia and so much discomfort in our lives.
Understanding fear and pain in our process of self-discovery, our relationship to it and initiation is one thing, but integrating the profound learnings into day-to-day life through healthier connections with ourselves and others is where the magic happens, making me keen to co-create with you.
